Other ways to work with us

An Agreed-Upon Procedures (AUP) engagement is a flexible service where we work with you to carry out specific checks or tests that you choose on your financial or business information.
Instead of performing a full audit, we focus only on the particular areas you want reviewed. For example; verifying certain transactions, checking payroll records or confirming account balances.
In this type of engagement, we do not provide an opinion or overall assurance on your financial statements. Instead, we report exactly what we find based on the procedures we agreed with you upfront. This means you receive clear, factual results that you can use to make decisions or share with relevant stakeholders. Because the work is tailored, the findings reflect only the specific procedures agreed with you upfront — not a broader conclusion on your financial statements as a whole.
It is important to note that the report is usually intended only for the parties who agreed to the procedures, as others may misinterpret the findings without understanding the purpose behind them.
An AUP engagement is often a cost-effective and practical solution when you don’t need a full audit, but still want independent verification in specific areas.

We provide independent and reliable stocktake and fixed asset verification services to help ensure the accuracy and integrity of your business records.
Our team has the expertise to carry out both full stock counts and sample-based or ongoing stocktakes, depending on your needs and the size of your operation.
In addition to verifying physical stock, we can assess your stock management processes and internal controls. We identify any weaknesses that may expose your business to errors or fraud and provide practical recommendations to strengthen your systems and improve efficiency.
We also assist with the verification and tracking of fixed assets, including recreating or updating asset registers by location. This supports accurate record-keeping for accounting, insurance, and management purposes, giving you confidence that your asset information is complete and up to date.
As with our Agreed Upon Procedures, we don't provide an audit opinion or overall assurance conclusion on these engagements — instead, we report our factual findings clearly, so you and your stakeholders can rely on accurate, verified information.
HOW WE WORK - EVERY TIME
Our process
01
Initial conversation
Free, no obligation. We talk through your organisation, your reporting obligations and what level of assurance actually makes sense for you.
02
Engagement letter
Before we start anything, you receive a clear engagement letter: scope, fee, timeline, and deliverables. No ambiguity, no surprises.
03
Planning
We invest time upfront understanding your organisation — its operations, controls and specific risk areas. Fieldwork follows a plan built for you, not a generic template.
04
Fieldwork
We work efficiently with your finance team with respect to your capacity. Every request is purposeful. We don't ask for documents we don't need.
05
Draft findings
We discuss our findings with management and governance as they arise before anything appears in writing. No report will contain something that surprises you. That's our commitment.
06
Final report
A clear, board-ready report plus a management letter with practical recommendations written for people, not for files.

LETS WORK TOGETHER
We're here for the long term. Let's start with a conversation.
OUR STANDARDS
The professional standards behind every Protea engagement.
The frameworks we work to in order to protect your organisation. Here's what they are and why they matter.
ISA (NZ)
International Standards on Auditing (New Zealand)
Issued by: XRB — External Reporting Board
The independent standards framework that governs how audits must be planned, performed and reported in New Zealand.
CA ANZ
Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand
Issued by: Professional membership body
Membership requires ongoing CPD, mandatory ethical conduct standards and compliance with professional practice requirements, not a one-time qualification.
ISRE 2400
International Standards on Review Engagements
Issued by: IAASB / adopted by XRB
The international standard that governs review engagements that set out the procedures, evidence requirements and reporting obligations.
PES 3 (ISQM 1)
Quality Management for Firms
Issued by: XRB, based on IAASB's ISQM 1
The standard governing our firm's system of quality management — covering leadership responsibility, ethical requirements, engagement performance, monitoring and independence safeguards. It's what ensures every engagement meets a consistently high standard, not just the individual auditor's judgement on the day.
